"The Wait / Η Αναμονή"

A 2026 UCL Final Project Documentary Film

Blending interviews with historians and the wives and children of sailors, alongside oral histories, archival material, and the breath of longing, this documentary explores the unseen matriarchal labour within the Greek island of Andros’s maritime community. Waiting on shore, women took on not just emotional but domestic and economic labour. From philanthropists to economists, they shaped family and society, yet their contributions remain overlooked with their stories largely told through the voices of husbands, fathers, and sons. This film, is a testament to those subdued, underrepresented voices, calling for “their person,” across the distance and silence, shaped by the enduring act of waiting.
